SPECIAL COLLECTION:
Type Species

In botanical terms 'type' generally refers to a specific specimen that defines a species. Type Species, although used in zoological use, is informally used in botany to identify the species of the type specimen for the genus.

For our purposes in the greenhouse, if a genus has only one recognized extant species, we have tagged that species as the 'type species' as well as species informally denoted as type species in the literature.
