  • Common Name: Dwarf Pomegranate
  • Family: Lythraceae J. St-Hil.

  • Country of Origin: S.E. Europe to E. Asia
  • Habitat: dry limestone soils

  • Description: A miniature version of the pomegranate tree, in form of a deciduous shrub to 2m high; with shining vivid green, narrow leaves and scarlet flowers 3-4 cm long; with salmon calyx at end of thin branchlets, producing small orange red fruit to 5 cm diameter with hard rind and juicy edible pulp; attractive as a small pot plant. Subtropical climate.

  • Uses: Pomegranate has been used medicinally for more than 3000 years and boasts a wide range of health benefits. Studies have shown benefits to include high levels of vitamin C, anti inflammatory properties, anticarcinogenic properties, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, wound healing and immunomodulatory effects amongst many others.
