  • Description: Vine, stems strongly 4-ribbed to 4-winged, often nearly leafless; leaves simple, broadly cordate-ovate, sometimes 3-lobed, to 2 inches long; flowers greenish, in short cymes; fruit red.

    Many traditional medicinal uses reported, modern scientific studies have shown evidence of the following benefits: anti- oxidant, weight loss, bone healing, anti- ulcer, analgesic, antiostereoporotic, anabolic and androgenic activity, anti- inflammatory, antihemorrhoidal and venotonic activity.     This plant is otherwise known as Asthishrinkhala in Sanskrit. The entirety of the plant can be used for different benefits. The stem itself is a rich calcium source. For respiratory or vocal problems, the juice of the stem is taken internally. The juice can also be made into a paste and be put on fractures for faster healing and also aids in burns or cuts. Taken internally, the skeletal-muscular system can be aided in joint pains, fatigue or lethargy.
