  • Country of Origin: northern South America

  • Uses: Medicinal: Plant extract used for rheumatism, epilepsy, stroke, as an antilipemic, and has such a well recognized benefits for diabetes one of its common names in Brazil is "Insulina".

    In the tropical Americas, this plant is used in a variety of medicinal treatments. The sap of the stem has been used as a diuretic. It will cleanse the body though means of excretion and will aid in reducing fever. When blood flow as stopped in an extremity and the tissues are in sever danger of dying, also known as gangrene, the sap can be applied on the affected area. A poultice of crushed leaves can be made to treat swellings, sores, and ulcers. It will help the body excrete toxins that build up in these ailments. It will also help with snake bites. 3
