Creeping, stoloniferous perennial grass; stems branching, compressed, flowering shoots 4-14 inches high; leaf blades mostly less than 6 inches long, to 3/8 inches wide; racemes 2-4 inches long; spikelets solitary or paired, rarely in threes, 0.125 - 0.25 inches long.
South Carolina to Florida and Texas; Tropical America.
Cultivated as a lawn grass along the coast, also in California, and escaping.
