  • Description: Protandrous species - first two days male, then female - the stamens open in two whorls of five - five the first day, then they reflex, and then five others the second day, followed by the stigmata on the third day being extended up by the styles, and expanding to become receptive.

    Silene lagunensis is a perennial species, with a somewhat woody base. It grows primarily in winter, and has an extended flowering season in late winter and early spring. The flowers produce an intense sweet fragrance, especially at night.
