  • Description: Plants do not bear leaves (aphyllous), but instead rely on sharp, photosynthetic thorns. In each axil 2 serial buds arise, upper develops into a triangular thorn, the lower develops into flowers or branch..
    Plants in this genus have N fixing actinomycete nodules on roots.
  • Culture: Grow in sandy, free-draining soil; hardy to about -5C.
