    A native of China and cultivated in Japan for many centuries, this deciduous tree grows to about 20 ft (6 m) with spreading branches. Its dark green oval leaves turn yellow to deep orange in fall (autumn). It has small, cream flowers and orange or yellow fruit about 3 in (8 cm) across.

  • Uses: Popular edible fruit in China and Japan where it is prized for its orange flesh.
