  • Description: [syn Araucaria excelsa]

    Mature trees to 200 feet, pyramidal; juvenile leaves awl-shaped, incurved, laterally flattened, decurrent, light green, soft, to 1/2 inches long; adult leaves closely overlapping, lanceolate-ovate to triangular with blunt incurved apex and obscure midrib; male cones 1.5 to 2 inches long, female cones sub-globose, 3-5 inches long, 3-6 inches in diameter, the mucro at tip of scales short, not recurved.

  • Uses: This species is a good example of 'topophysis', where cuttings take from vigorous upright material will inherit the normal upright growth of the species, but cuttings taken from horizontal branches will root, but will maintain a horizontal growth habit rather than the normal upright growth.
